Have you been thinking about doing Mt Wilson, but don't want to endure the sweat, pain, inevitable tears, and likely bear sightings on your own? Join us as we meet up to tackle this hike where we'll laugh enough together to confuse our tears of joy and tears of pain!

This trail is an out and back alternative to the popular chantry flats route where we get to bypass the windy road to the crazy packed parking lot and add on a few extra feet of elevation gain aka booty burn ;). I personally really enjoyed this hike and route! Sure, it ends in a parking lot, but the difficulty and beauty of it will make you feel like a real warrior! :)

Distance: 13.4 miles out and back

Peak elevation: 5713ft

Elevation change: ~4583ft

Hiking time: 7-10 hrs, depending on pace and breaks

Meeting time: 5:45am. We will be leaving at 6am SHARP. Please don't be late as courtesy to the ladies that are coming from further away.

Parking: On the street! Residential parking should be available on Miramonte Ave (just read the signs).

My goals for 2018 are to try to get back into hiking shape and knock out as many awesome new trails, summits, and overnight trips as I can. I'd love for you ladies to join me on this adventure! The hikes that I will be leading will be open to all GWHLA members with the assumption that you are prepared with the stamina due to the mileage and ready for the elevation gain. I am trying to reach out to our members that are interested in challenging themselves and/or training for bigger things (races, higher peaks, thruhikes, fitness goals, life). Each hike will have at least one lead and one sweep and we may be split into a couple of groups based on our size (LNT rules to keep to 12 members per group as enforced in certain areas) and levels. No one gets left behind!

*****How do you know you're ready for this hike?*****
*If you were able to snag a free ticket, that means you still have a WHOLE MONTH to prepare! Post here or in the main group page to see if girls are interested in joining you for some 10+ mile hikes to give your feet a test run!
*Get your trekking poles! Don't have some? Amazon sells great ones for decent rates or see if you can borrow some from a friend in the group!
*Get your 3 L hydration bladder! This is VERY important for this hike as it is a LONG one and pretty EXPOSED. A hydration bladder is the easiest way to make sure you stay hydrated throughout the hike. The observatory (peak) will likely not have a water source to fill up (not usable after the fires) and we should definitely not rely on it. YOU MUST HAVE MINIMUM 3 L for this hike, although I STRONGLY encourage 4-5L (store an extra nalgene bottle in your pack with the bladder).
*Download the alltrails map or print it out and study the surroundings. BRING THE MAP WITH YOU.
*We may not need it, but you should always have a HEADLIGHT in your backpack just in case. You never want to wish you had it when you have to finish the last hour of a trail in the dark.
*Missing something, NEVER! Read through REI's awesome 10 essentials list and always be prepared:

***In order to attend an official meetup, you MUST have a signed Liability Waiver on file. It takes 60 seconds to complete and one waiver clears you for all meetups! (***
