#OptOutside 2017 Events

Back in 2015, REI launched a worldwide initiative called #OptOutside that quickly became bigger than the company themselves. Instead of participating in the retail chaos that has escalated over the years on Black Friday, they decided to close all 140+ retail locations and pay their employees to spend time outside with their friends and family. Why? Because their company saw value in encouraging others to reconnect through the great outdoors. Fast forward two years and the #OptOutside movement has successfully spread to hundreds of companies as a direct result of REI's efforts.

Here at Girls Who Hike, we truly believe in the opportunity to simply "go outside" with friends and family during a holiday weekend. In a society that's obsessed with electronic screens and consumerism, spending a few hours in fresh air with someone who's important to you can truly have remarkable benefits both physically and mentally. That's why on Black Friday, we're hosting 14 of our own #OptOutside family-friendly, co-ed events throughout the United States to encourage our OWN members to get outside!

Below you'll find a list of Girls Who Hike Chapters that are taking part in this special day + links to find details/RSVP. We'll be giving away swag bags filled with goodies from our sponsors and raffling off larger prizes from our partners, so make sure you arrive on time!

Note: You must be a member of each chapter's closed Facebook group in order to see their event details. Click here for a list!
