Chickadee Ridge is a popular destination with epic views of Lake Tahoe, the Sierras & Desolation Wilderness! This is a great place for beginner snowshoers, backcountry skiers & snowboarders to get their feet wet on some easy backcountry terrain sharing the trail with many others, since this is a popular trail.

This fun and easy trek at a starting elevation of just over 8500 feet that will lead you up to the top of Chickadee Ridge, which sits at about 8900 feet. While there is no set trail to get to the ridge, you can easily see the ridge from the parking area along the side of the highway at Tahoe Meadows. Basically, just pick a route and head on up! It's an easy 400 feet of elevation gain and with fresh snow fall it makes for a fun ascent up to the ridge and decent back to your car.

The real magic of this trail lies at the ridge where you can embrace amazing views and the Chickadee's swirl around in the trees. So be sure to bring bird seed, specifically sunflower seeds, as that is their favorite! The tiny Chickadees will literally eat out of your hand making you feel as though you're in a Disney Movie!

Back country safety is always something to be aware of even if you're on a heavily traveled trail, by being aware of your surroundings, hydrating and bringing plenty of water, food, wearing the proper clothing, knowing what wildlife and plant life is in the area, altitude sickness signs, and let someone know where you are going.
