Name: Carolyn Fox
Hometown/Current Home: Simi Valley, California / Las Vegas, Nevada
What chapter are you an Ambassador for?: GWHNV
How long have you been apart of Girls Who Hike for?: About 7 months
How did you find the Girls Who Hike organization?: I was following lots of hiking groups on FB and IG, GWH was the only one that I followed pretty closely.
What made you want to become a Girls Who Hike Ambassador?: I had already led a few hikes. I also really love the desert and love showing people why the desert can be such an amazing place despite what people most commonly think.
How did you get into hiking?: My first hike was when I was three. I was in a backpack my dad wore while hiking in Yosemite National Park. Needless to say, it just kind of stuck. I guess I'm lucky, I didn't have to learn to love it, I was born loving it.
What's your favorite thing about spending time in the outdoors?: I am a very stressed out person, and for some reason it all goes away when I hit the trail. I feel this euphoria when I'm in the wilderness and I can usually forget all of my problems and focus on the task at hand. It's become addictive. I love it!
List three things you can't go hiking without:
1.Now, a paper map (it can never fail me like my other phone, GPS, and such has)
2.Water (at least 3 liters at all times, especially in the desert)
3.My rosary (You never know when you're going to have to pray yourself out of it, and I have)
What do you love the most about being a Girls Who Hike Ambassador?: I love teaching and showing other girls how amazing hiking can be. I have been able to get people who would have never set out on a dirt path to love it. I enjoy inspiring others to do the impossible. The love for hiking can be contagious, and you'll catch it from me.
What advice would you give ladies who are new to hiking?: "Too much is never enough!" This is a phrase my roomie and I coined over the summer. We are mostly referring to hiking, water, sunscreen, and snacks.
I have a YouTube Hiking Channel. My Beagle Charlie wears a GoPro when we hike.
