Nevada - Snowshoe to Chickadee Ridge

GWHNV will be doing a snowshoe trek up to Chickadee Ridge love to see you there!

Mt. Rose Meadows to Chickadee Ridge
Approx: 3.5 mi out and back
Approx: 500 ft. elevation gain
Meeting time: 10AM, take-off time 10:15
Meeting Location: Mount Rose Summit parking area & drive down to Mt Rose Meadows as a group. Parking is along the highway wherever there is room.

This will be a members only event. Please check your local REI or ski shop for snowshoe rentals. They may need to be reserved early. 

This popular winter trail will lead us to Chickadee Ridge where you can bring some bird seed to feed them at the ridge! We will be hiking at the pace of the slowest snowshoer, for this hike. This will ensure that we do not get separated or lost on snowy trails, which can be very misleading. Bad weather/dangerous conditions WILL CANCEL, not enough Snow or we can change location if everyone still wants to get outside!

Nevada - The Bench via TRT

This hike is along part of a TRT (Tahoe Rim Trail) Section hike! This event is weather dependent and will CANCEL if it snows or we have thunder storms. 
Distance: 12 ~ mi out and back
Elevation Gain: 1700 ft. elevation gain. Top Elevation 8100
Trail Rating: Yellow – Strenuous hike at Altitude, Well-marked trail. 
Meeting time: 10:00AM, take-off time 10:15AM – 5PM

What to bring:
Please bring a lot of water, headlamp, sunscreen, snacks/lunch & warm water proof clothing as well as extra layers as this is at 8200 feet and will be windy and cold in November. This is a steep hike that will take us to “The Bench” that overlooks Lake Tahoe. We will be hiking at the moderate pace since daylight is shorter this time of year. Please don’t hesitate to ask any hiking related questions!

Marlette Lake trail is lined with Aspen trees & in October it will be a perfect time to see the changing colors!
Distance: 9 ~ mi out and back
Elevation Gain: 2200 ft. elevation gain. Top Elevation 8100
Trail Rating: Yellow – Strenuous hike at Altitude, Well-marked trail. 
Meeting time: 9:30AM, take-off time 9:45AM – 5PM

Nevada & California - Camping & White Mountain Hike

GWHNV Overnight Camping Trip & Hike to White Mountain Peak (Big Pine, CA)

GWH Northern NV will be doing an overnight Camping Trip & hike up to Summit of White Mountain 14,246’. This is the 3rd highest Peak in CA – Just outside of Big Pine! This is one of the easiest 14ers in the CA area.

Event Description

Event Date: Saturday - Sunday 7/21- 7/22
White Mountain has stunning views of Owens Valley & the Eastern Sierras in a remote and beautiful area! It is a protected are with Ancient Bristlecone Pines and Fossils nearly 600 million years old. 
Distance: 15 mi out and back
Elevation Gain: 2500 ft. elevation gain. Top Elevation 14,246
Trail Rating: Red – Strenuous hike at Altitude – Experienced hikers that have been at Altitude at or over 12k. Well-marked trail. 
Meeting time: Big Pine CA Sat 7/21 at 12 (noon) we will then drive to the trail head at Barcroft gate, Car Camp and Start our hike Sunday 7/22 at 5:30 am. 
Important Details: Higher Clearance Vehicle needed to get to the trail, about 30 miles of driving on a dirt road. Although I have seen a geo metro at the trail head in past years. We will be car camping at the trail head and getting an Alpine start to ensure we have plenty of time. We will be camping at 12,000 feet. Fires are only permitted by permit, which I will not be obtaining.

What to Bring
Please bring a lot of water we will be at altitude, sunscreen, snacks, lunch dinner and extra food. Bring warm clothing even in the summer its cold at 12,000 – 14,000 feet. Bring extra layers such as a fleece, rain jacket, down jacket & pants on this type of adventure it’s very important to be prepared. Whatever you need to be comfortable & warm to camp. There are no services in this area or for 30+ miles of this area. 

This is a moderate uphill hike at elevation with a steep uphill at the last ½ mile. This hike will take us to the Summit of the tallest mountain in the White Mountain Range. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions!

Distance: 11~ mi out and back

Trail Rating: Yellow – Moderately Strenuous hike at Altitude, Experienced hikers welcome, semi-experienced welcome if they plan on training beforehand! Well-marked trail. 
Meeting time: 7:30AM, take-off time 7:45AM – 5PM

Meeting Location: TRT Trail Head - Big Meadow: On Hwy 89, 5.3 mi. south of the US 50/ Hwy 89 junction in Meyers. Trailer parking available.

Trail rating: YELLOW- Moderate hike, well-signed, elevation gain of between 1,000-2,000ft, low altitude

This is a moderately rated hike with some light scrambling towards the summit. The trail is clearly marked and should take around 5 hours. Hikers of all levels, dogs, and children are welcome. This is an easy hike with a well maintained flat trail. We will be passing through 5 old rail road tunnels, and hiking to the Hoover Dam! There will be a water check before the hike begins to ensure everyone's safety, and I recommend bringing snacks to replenish!
