Starved Rock is one of Illinois' greatest hiking gems! This park can get very crowded so we will start at the less-crowded east side, meeting at the Hennepin Canyon Overlook Parking Lot and hike west to Wild Cat Canyon and loop around to various canyons back to the parking lot.

Deer Grove Forest Preserve Trail. We will meet in the parking lot for the new Jelly Cafe in Palatine (address above) at 7am andenjoy a delicious breakfast on the patio. Then we will take a stroll through the forest preserve. I plan to take the paved trail to the yellow unpaved trail. Illinois - Des Plaines River Trail

This is going to be an easy stroll for a hump day sunset walk! It is very close to Chicago and right next to Ohare so it should be easy for anyone in the metro area to get to!


Trail Rating: This is a green hike
Des Plaines River Trail. We will meet at the Robinson Woods Parking Lot off Lawerence Ae. 6:30pm and hike about an hour North and then turn around and head back.

Matthiessen State Park. We will meet at the fort at the top of the main entrance at 8am and do a loop on the top trail (a little less than 2 miles) and then we can go down into the canyon to explore and chase waterfalls!

This is a fairly easy and super fun hike! It is mostly shaded so it should not be too hot! Please be advised that it can get rather muddy if there has been recent rain so wear appropriate boots (I have seen people in rain boots previously though only advised if it has good tread so you dont slip)

Hi everybody! I'm Laura and I’m an Ambassador for GWH Illinois! I’ll be leading this hike. We will meet at the Fort at the end of the parking lot. 

Trail: 5 miles of well-marked, well-surfaced trails in woods and canyons, and maybe into waterfalls! 
Sights: You will marvel at the plant and animal life along the trails, and have an unparalleled view of geological wonders.
