Hi ladies! I'm so excited to lead this hike through Cane Creek Canyon Preserve!

The preserve is situated around a complex of small sandstone canyons in the upper portion of the Cane Creek watershed of the Tennessee River basin. The area has rugged topography that includes a number of waterfalls, creek cascades, boulder fields, and rock shelters. We will hit some of the highlights of this area including "The Point" overlook.

After the hike, we will take a short ride over to Rattlesnake Saloon to have lunch in this unique rock shelter restaurant.

Bring ample water, snacks, bug spray, sun screen, an adventurous spirit, and a camera! Be sure to wear sturdy shoes/hiking boots.

Dogs on leash welcome for this hike. Keep the guys at home for this event, please!

GWH Trail Rating-
YELLOW: Moderate hike, low altitude, some obstacles

I'm excited to lead this hike in the beautiful Sipsey Wilderness. We will be doing a through hike from 200 to 209. There won't be much elevation gain but I rated as moderate for distance and obstacles. We will encounter "Fat Man Squeeze" where we will need to take our bags off and go between two rocks. We WILL be crossing the creek and the water level can vary. Be prepared to take off your shoes and roll up your pants to cross!

Due to Sispey Wilderness Group Size Limitations this hike will be limited to the first 10 people. Please be sure to keep your RSVP updated if you decide not to go so someone else can jump in!

Bring plenty of water, a snacks/lunch and a camera! Be sure to wear sturdy shoes/hiking boots. Since it will likely be cold I recommend to wear layers. If it is supposed to be really cold then a set of thermals, sweatshirt or some other warm shirt over (synthetic is better than cotton), warm jacket on top (down or other warm layer), on the bottom I typically just put hiking pants over my thermals, warm socks, warm gloves, and something to cover your head/ears. We will likely encounter mud and I recommend bringing hiking poles as they are helpful on log crossings and hopping rocks over water crossings. I HIGHLY recommend bringing an extra pair of socks IN your bag in case your feet get wet. This is a good, fun, hike for beginners (just need to be able to walk at least 7 miles at a moderate pace). Any questions, let me know!

GWH Southeast Region Meetup - Providence Canyon

Looking for another adventure to add to your camping and hiking bucket list? Well, I have the perfect hike for you and this is what I consider to be Georgia’s most unique state park, Providence Canyon.

Providence Canyon is considered Georgia’s “little Grand Canyon.” It’s only been around since the 1800s and was originally created because of poor farming practices when farmers were not taking the proper steps to avoid soil erosion. Over the year’s constant moving water within the sandstone have naturally carved out these awe-inspiring sandstone canyons.

GWH would like to invite you to join us on an exclusive collaborative camping and hiking event between the Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina chapter groups. We will be reserving several back country campsites for our groups where we are planning an overnight trip for Saturday, March 10th. We will meet up Saturday morning to do some hiking on the and exploring along the White Trail. Then, grab our belongings and backpack 3-4 miles to our campsites along the back country trail.

If camping and backpacking is not your jam, but you’re still interested in day hiking Providence Canyon you are still more than welcome to join in our day hike. In regards to pacing GWHGA stays together as a group to encourage one another. We are here to spread motivation, positive vibes, and support to our members along the trails. Please mention below in comments that you will be doing this, so then we can plan accordingly for how many to expect for camping purposes.

The trail we plan to explore Saturday is the White Blaze Canyon Loop trail, which is around 5 miles and considered a moderate hiking trail. The Canyon Loop trail wanders through 9 of the extraordinary canyons, a sandy riverbed of constant moving water along portions of the canyon floors, through a shady forest, and back up to the top where you can peer into the canyon at various overlooks along the edge of the canyon. As you hike into the canyons you will notice how each are dramatically shaped and one of a kind due to the carvings of the constant moving water. These canyons are different from the Grand Canyon though, because Providence Canyon’s walls are made of fragile crumbling sandstone.

All Attendees for day hiking or camping are required to RSVP on the eventbrite as well (link below)
