The Frugal Backpacker in Greenville, SC has partnered with us to do a beginners hiking class. We’ll be covering backpacking basics including technique, gear, and women specific topics. We want to know what you ladies want to learn so we can incorporate it in the class. Feel free to sound off in the comments!
We can follow this up with an unofficial backpacking trip in the following weeks when it warms up. 

There will be a $10 registration fee that will be donated to a local non profit related to hiking. We will have a vote on ones we’ve selected closer to the class!

Hi everybody! My name is Sarah and I’m an Ambassador for GWH South Carolina! I’ll be leading this hike.

This hike is open to hikers of all skill levels. We’ll be hiking as a group, and nobody will be left behind or forgotten. What to bring - Please bring at least 2 L of water, hiking boots and nutrient dense snacks. This trail can be a bit bumpy, hiking poles may help assist in tougher terrain! Please bring plenty of water for your dog.
Please carpool as parking is limited. Meet at 9:30am for a departure of 10am.

South Carolina - Bearwallow Mountain & Trombatore Trail

This Hike is led by GWH Ambassador Emily Clark! Please arrive at the trailhead at 9:45am, hike will begin promptly at 10am. This hike has two parts and both hikes share the same trailhead. We will hike up Bearwallow Mtn (2.1 miles RT), arrive back at the cars, then hike up the Trombatore Trail to Blue Ridge Pastures (4.7 miles RT). If you wish to only complete the 2.1 mile Bearwallow Mtn hike, that is perfectly fine! Also feel free to bring a snack / lunch - we will be spending some time at the top of both mountains enjoying the awesome winter views!

This is a fmilay friendly event. We will partner with Palmeeto Pride and the Naitonal Forrest Service to do some trail clean up in the Francis Marion National Forrest. Trail clean up will likely involve pick up trash and removing debris from the trail, but it could include some other tasks as well. 

PLease RSVP on the Eventbrite link so I can give Palmetto Pride an accurate headcount. 

Volunteers should meet at the US Forest Service Office, 2967 Steed Creek Rd, Huger, SC. 

Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants, long-sleeve shirts and sturdy shoes. Gloves, bags and vests will be provided. Weather-appropriate outerwear is recommended. Lunch will be served to all volunteers and staff.

Directions

From Georgetown: Take HWY 17 S approximately 33 miles to Steed Creek Road (Road #10-1032)

From Monks Corner: Take HWY 52 to HWY 402 to Huger. Cross over Hwy 41 at the flashing red light and you will be on Steed Creek Road. Forest Service Center is 3 miles on your right.

From Mt. Pleasant/I-526: Take HWY 17. Drive 5.2 miles past the Sewee Visitor Center and turn left on Steed Creek Road. Forest Service Center is approximately 9 miles on the left.

Happy fall y’all! 🍂 Excited to host a hike during the autumn foliage season at the infamous Max Patch! Meeting at 9:45AM at the Lemon Gap trailhead on the Appalachian Trail. To celebrate our 1st birthday, we are partnering with Athleta and the Palmetto Conservation Foundation to give back to the trail! We will be doing trail maintenance on the Wateree Passage of the Palmetto Trail. 

Trail maintenance consists of trimming branches and trees that obstruct the trail or the views from the trail. If we have 10+ people, we will also be able to build a new part of the trail! 

Bring your regular hiking gear including lots of water and a lunch. If you have loppers or pruning shears, bring those as well. 

This is a family-friendly event, but no dogs are allowed.

Who doesn’t love a post-hike pint and chatting with your new trail buddies! We are joining forces with Girl Pint Out to hike Caw Caw and then stop by BREWERY.

Caw Caw is a lowcountry favorite for nature lovers, especially bird watchers. The center has nearly 6 miles of trails that wind through forest and old rice paddies.

After our hike we’ll check out After our hike we will head to Fat Pig Brewing Co. (located just 10 minutes from Caw Caw) to enjoy a pint or two! 

To complete this hike, I highly recommend bringing at least 1 L of water and sunscreen.

This hike is open to hikers of all skill levels and will last about 2 hours. We’ll be hiking as a group, and nobody will be left behind or forgotten. No men, kids, or dogs on this hike.

We will be starting on the McClellanville side of the Swamp Fox Passage, off of HWY 17. Expect to go a total of 6 miles, out and back. We will start hiking no later than 9:15 am. 
Make sure to bring PLENTY OF WATER AND BUG SPRAY. Long pants are recommended. If you are planning on bringing a furry friend, make sure to account for them as well. This is a trail I've been wanting to do for a while, and I'm very excited to get to do it with you ladies!

Beat the summer heat on the Edisto River! We will tube down the river with Edisto River Adventures (ERV) and then picnic on the sandbar afterward. Right now the river is a little low and the trip is taking approximately 3 hours. You can hang out afterward as long as you want. 

Tubing costs $20. If we have 15 or more people sign up we will receive a 10% discount. ERV also has coolers and cooler tubes for rent (check the website for prices). 

Drinks are allowed on the river and the sandbar. Please drink responsibly. This event is co-ed, but no dogs or children. 

We will start tubing at 9:00 am, but everyone will need to pay individually beforehand.

Our "hike" will take us along the scenic coastline in Charleston, through Waterfront Park and along East Bay St. We will reach our halfway point at Mercantile and Mash, where we will spend some time getting a drink and food. 
As usual, make sure you bring plenty of water, sunscreen and bugspray.

Trail Rating: GREEN: Mellow hike, easy to follow, elevation gain of 1,000ft and under, low altitude. Novice hikers welcome!

Hi everyone! Join me for a leisurely hike along part of the Carolina Thread Trail! The paved path follows the Catawba River and is relatively easy. Bring enough water, some snacks, sunscreen/bugspray, and your enthusiasm! We'll hike from Riverwalk to River Park and back (almost 7 miles). Lots a pretty views of the river, a railroad bridge, and hopefully some wildlife! Let's meet in front of the Grapevine Bar & Cafe at 8:45am and we'll start walking at 9:00am. See you there!
