Washington - Mailbox Peak

Mailbox Peak (OLD trail up; NEW trail down)
Trail Rating: RED: Strenuous hike, possible unmarked trail, elevation gain of 4,000+ft, altitude up to 5,000ft. Experienced hikers welcome, semi-experienced welcome if they will be training beforehand! 4L of water (minimum) required.

Time: 7:00AM SHARP at the parking lot - We will NOT wait for late arrivals!!
Distance: 9 miles roundtrip (3 miles up, 6 miles down)
Elevation Gain: 4,000ft (gained in 3 miles, 50% grade)

Water Required: 4L (at least 1 GALLON) required. Consider bringing more if weather conditions will be warm/sunny.

Take exit 34 from I-90. Head north on 468th Ave SE for approximately half a mile until the intersection with the SE Middle Fork Road. Turn right onto the Middle Fork Road. Follow SE Middle Fork Road 2.2 miles to the stop sign at the junction with SE Dorothy Lake Road. Head left onto SE Middle Fork Road and drive 0.3 miles. Take the turnoff to the trailhead on the right and continue a short distance uphill to the parking lot.


**READ: This hike is extremely difficult and NOT recommended for beginners. The elevation gain on the old trail is near vertical and you will likely find yourself on your hands and knees at some points in order to crawl up sections of the trail. There is also a rock scramble to the summit, and vertigo may also pose an issue.

-------> Ticket registration will be limited to WAITLIST ONLY, and only 5 tickets will be released. Priority will be given to members who:
a) have not violated the attendance policy,
b) have previously attended GWHWA events,
c) are experienced with difficult/strenuous hikes,
d) are training for a difficult summit (Mount St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, etc.)
*Putting your name on the waitlist does not guarantee a ticket to the event. Once a ticket is released to you, you will only have 24 hours to accept the ticket before it is released to the next member. You will be asked to enter the word watermelon as the pass code for registration, and you will be placed on the waitlist.
