Pennsylvania - Ohiopyle State Park Hike & Picnic

This hike is led by GWHPA Ambassador Jessica Lakes and GWHWV Ambassador Sharon Jones.

Trail Rating: This is a yellow hike on the GWH scale. It is a moderate hike, with an elevation gain of less than 1,000 feet. Please note that depending on water levels there may be a water crossing. Plan for some muddy areas on the trail and a few areas where the trail contains large river rocks. Novice hikers welcome!

Ferncliff Trail to Great Gorge to Cucumber Falls Date: August 19, 2018

Meeting Location: Ohiopyle State Park Visitor Center, Main St., Ohiopyle 8:45AM. Hike will begin at 9:00am. ***Please note this is the newer Visitor Center along Main Street not the Visitor Center among the GAP Trail.

Distance: Approximately 5 miles
Elevation Gain: 751 feet
Location: Ohiopyle State Park

Additional Information: Optional picnic along the river after the hike. If you are interested in a picnic please bring your own lunch/snacks and blanket/chair. There are also several places in town where you can grab lunch to-go if you’d prefer to buy something locally.

Indoor bathrooms and water fountain located in the Visitor Center.

Dogs: Yes – must be on a leash

Track: We’ll start out on the Great Allegheny Passage to the Ferncliff Trail Trailhead, take the Ferncliff Trail, meet up with the Great Gorge Trail, and continue to Cucumber Falls. We will return to
the visitor center via the Great Gorge Trail and Main Street.

***As with all GWH events, you must sign the GWH waiver before attending – it takes less than a minute to sign, and once you’ve signed it once you’re good to go for all future meetups***

To complete this hike, I highly recommend bringing snacks, 2 - 3 L of water, and your 10 essentials.a

This hike is open to hikers of all skill levels. We’ll be hiking as a group, and nobody will be left behind or forgotten.
