California Inland Empire - Cucamonga Peak Backpacking Trip

This hike is led by GWHIE Ambassador Colleen Guilfoyle!
This hike is limited to 10 people, so all will receive special Girls Who Hike giveaways.

Trail Rating: RED. Strenuous hike, possible unmarked trail, elevation gain of 2,500+, altitude up to 9,500ft. Experienced hikers welcome, semi-experienced welcome if they plan on training beforehand! Personal trail map REQUIRED, trail map & water check at trailhead before we begin, we may split up based on pace and you must be comfortable navigating solo between rest breaks.
This is also an OVERNIGHT backpacking trip. You must provide your own gear (tent/hammock, sleeping set-up, food and water).

Date: 7/4/18- 7/5/18
Time: 3PM-7:30AM
Distance: 12 Miles (6 miles out and 6 miles back)
Elevation Gain: 4,314 feet
Trailhead Address: 7698 Ice House Canyon Road, Angeles National Forest, Mount Baldy, CA 91759

Dogs: Yes, On-leash. While dogs are allowed, please make sure your dog is prepared for a hike of this magnitude – elderly dogs and puppies should stay at home. Remember that you will have to carry enough water and food for your dog as well.

Permits / Passes: Eventbrite Required, Adventure Pass Required & Permit at Trail Head
Eventbrite: Will be available soon (aiming for Sunday June 17th)!
AllTrails Track:
Kids: No
Men: No

Pace: We will be maintaining a pace of 2.0-2.5 mph. To ensure that you can manage this pace, I recommend referring to your pace from previous hikes. If a 5-7 mile hike takes you 5+ hours, your pace is closer to 1 mph and may not be suited to this hike.

***As with all GWH events, you must sign the GWH waiver before attending – it takes less than a minute to sign, and once you’ve signed it once you’re good to go for all future meetups***

The views from Cucamonga Peak are breathtaking, especially at night. I am hoping this will accommodate some ladies who have the 4th of July off and what better way to spend the holiday! We will anticipate heading back down the trail VERY early (5AM) in hopes of getting back to the parking lot by 8AM. This will require a 2mph pace, those who need to move a little slower, or would like to stay at the peak a little longer, will have to split from the group.

Please note: You MUST provide your own backpacking gear and food/water.

Any updates will be posted on the event thread via the pinned post, and I’ll update the event description if anything changes!
