Come spend mother's day morning with us hiking in the beautiful San Gabriel mountain range! This hike is early enough that you can make brunch plans after or bring your mom/daughter/female along for the fun (as long as she is a girls who hike member 18 years or older and has signed a waiver). The trail to Smith Mountain is 3 miles with gradual elevation gain followed by an 800 ft steep scramble the last half mile. You are welcome to join us for the last section or just hang out below while we hang out at the top for our break. The views are stunning at the top, but just remember what goes up, must come back down.

Distance: 7 miles out and back

Peak elevation: 5111 ft

Elevation change: 1800 ft

Hiking time: ~5 hrs including break at the top!

Meeting time: 6:15am. We will be leaving at 6:30am SHARP. Please don't be late as courtesy for the ladies that are coming from further away.

Parking: ADVENTURE PASS REQUIRED. Park at the Upper Bear Creek Trailhead at 34.28738, -117.84267

Directions: From the 210 freeway in Azusa, take exit 40 and drive 18 miles north Route 39 to the trailhead. You will pass the East Fork Ranger Station at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Continue past San Gabriel Reservoir and go straight through an intersection with East Fork Road (the turnoff you would take to reach the Bridge to Nowhere hike). From the intersection, it is another 6.3 miles to the paved turnout on the left for the trailhead. (If you reach Coldbrook Campground, you drove 1/3 of a mile too far.) Upper Bear Creek Trail begins next to the bathroom at the north end of the lot.

****All attendees are REQUIRED to bring their own copy of the trail map (paper or downloaded to phone) and at least 3L of water (water check will be conducted). Trekking poles may be helpful for the last section, but not necessary. Good grip shoes recommended. It is also recommended that everyone brings the 10 hiking essentials (

***In order to attend an official meetup, you MUST have a signed Liability Waiver on file. It takes 60 seconds to complete and one waiver clears you for all meetups! (***
