Mt. Wilson via Sierra Madre
Mileage: 14 miles
Elevation Gain: 5,334 ft
Hiking Project's Trail Description:
Look for free street parking in front of Lizzie's Trail Inn and The Richardson House. Mt. Wilson Trail starts about 50 yards north of Mira Monte Ave.
The first mile of the trail is on a sandy singletrack with no shade, and the next few miles are in the woods. While catching your breath after the climb, don't forget to look back to see the view of Pasadena; on a good day you can see all the way to the ocean.
Once into the wooded section of the trail, the track becomes narrow. Look out for roots and loose rocks. There was a running water section but with the drought there isn't much water left.
Around mile 4 there will be a junction, continue on the trail to the right, this is the most difficult part of trail, be prepare to use both hands and feet. At the mile 5 marker, continue on the Mt. Wilson trail going north (up). A fire road will appear around mile 6, take a right and continue up the trail.
Be sure to enjoy the view of Pasadena and Los Angeles - that's partly why you're up here, I hope!
There will be a restroom, cafe, and water on the top of the Mt Wilson. From here, head back down the same way you came. This is when the fun begins!
Here are some great trail reviews by several websites

Hey ladies! Mt. Wilson is the first on SoCal Hiker's 6 Pack of Peak Challenge. Now's the time to bag that peak! This peak is a beast but such a rewarding challenge, and I can't wait to tackle it with you all. Although fur babies are allowed on this trail, I ask that you leave them at home for this hike due to the difficulty level and being in a large group. Men and children under the age of 18 must stay at home for this hike. An EVENTBRITE ticket is required and will be released on April 12, so keep an eye out! I will post on here when they are released as well. As always, password is GWHLA.
Happy trails ladies!
