This event is hosted by Girls Who Hike Ambassador Kailani Ameele on 4/8/2018. The first 10 attendees will receive special Girls Who Hike giveaways before the hike starts.

Trail Name: Raven Rock Loop Trail

Total Distance: 4.2miles

Total Elevation Gain: 836ft

Trail info:

Join GWHSC for a beautiful hike on the Raven Rock Loop trail! Starting from the Meeting House in Keowee-Toxaway State Park, this moderately strenuous, well-marked 4.2-mile loop will provide you with a link to the past as you hike on land that Cherokee Indians once traversed. You will begin your hike on the Natural Bridge Trail and shortly after you cross Poe Creek on the Natural Bridge, you will turn right onto the Raven Rock Trail.

Wildlife you may encounter during your hike includes white tail deer, chipmunks, or salamanders. You will ascend and descend around McKinney Mountain to a rocky area near the top where you will be treated to a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west while surrounded by mountain laurel, blueberries, and Bowman’s root.

Continuing, you will come to another vista that overlooks Lake Keowee, then begin a steep descent to the lakeshore. From here you will begin a steep ascent over stone ridges with excellent views of the lake, then descend to Poe Creek. Boulders in the creek provide a way to cross Poe Creek where you will rejoin the Natural Bridge Trail for your return.

Difficulty: Moderate to Strenuous; GWH TRAIL RATING SYSTEM: YELLOW
