New York - Giant & Rocky Mountains Weekend Trip

This Hike is led by GWH Ambassador Gwen! I'm really excited about this event. (sorry if the wording is a little "rough" it's been a long day). Any questions, just ask ... :)

This is the overnight event I've been talking about putting together. I reserved an Airbnb that accommodates 10. I will be limiting the group size to 10 people total for this trip. The price for 2 nights is $75/pp (to cover the cost of the cabin). If you want to reserve a spot, I'm holding spots as "first come first serve." If you want to reserve your spot, post in this thread and I will send you payment details, info on the house rental, and answer any questions you have about the hike and what you need to be prepared. You'll have 24 hours to pay to reserve your spot otherwise your spot will go to the next girl in line. You are responsible for all your own food, and way to get to the cabin.

Your spot is nonrefundable, but if you are unable to make the event you can transfer your spot to another girl. You are responsible for getting the money between you two ladies.

I know from personal experience that the town of Keene has horrible cell reception, and the cabin doesn't have wifi. It looks like a nice place tho. :) Once we're all there, I'm sure we will be carpooling to the hike together from the cabin. I can seat 6 in my car, and am happy to drive people to the hike and back.

Plan to bring your 10 essentials on the hike.

Alaska - Crow Pass

This event is hosted by Girls Who Hike Ambassador Kristen Kupperman. The first 10 members to attend will get a free Girls Who Hike giveaway!

Crow Pass - Girdwood Trailhead to Raven Glacier and back
7.2 miles roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 2100 feet
Meeting Location: Girdwood trailhead (directions below)

GWH Trail Rating: YELLOW: oderate ike, ell-signed, levation ain f ess than 2500 ft. Hikers of all paces and ability levels elcome!

Hi ladies! Now that the snow is melting it's the perfect time for one of the best day hikes near Anchorage: Crow Pass to Raven Glacier. The Crow Pass Trail is a 23 mile trail from Girdwood to Eagle River but we are going to hike only a portion of the long trail. We will start in Girdwood and hike up to the top of Crow Pass. Once you reach the top of the pass you also get close up views of Raven Glacier. After reaching the top of the pass we'll come back down to Girdwood. Prepare for awesome views of the pass, the glacier, and potentially some wildlife too!

Considerations for this hike: Please bring enough water, food, and layers of clothing for all kinds of weather. Bear spray (or other bear deterrents) is highly encouraged. Dogs are welcome. We will have to cross a creek at the base of a waterfall so either wear waterproof hiking boots or shoes you do not mind getting wet (I have hiked it in non-waterproof shoes and they dried out quickly but wanted to give a warning to anyone who might be concerned about this).

NOTE: this trailhead is an hour from Anchorage, so we will have a carpool post the week of the hike so people can find rides.

Directions: From Anchorage, head south on the New Seward Highway, past city limits, for about 45 minutes, until the city of Girdwood is reached. You will see a large gas station; turn left, and follow this road for about 2 miles. As soon as the road begins to curve right, look for Crow Creek Road on your left and turn. This will eventually be a gravel road. Follow the signs for Crow Pass Trail until you reach the parking lot.

California Orange County - Mt. Baldy

Hi girls ~ it’s me, Brandi “B” Rubin

I'd like to share a hosted hike with you up the "let's see what you're made of" glorious and demanding Mt. San Antonio (a.k.a. Mt. Baldy)

Sharing is caring and in true GWH fashion, some cute items will be given away to all of the girls who join me on this hike. It won't be a new car, I ain't Oprah :)

This is a moderate - hard 11 mile steady climb with an elevation gain of 3,900 feet. This is peak # 3 in the 6 pack of peaks if you are participating in that challenge.

Name: San Antonio a.k.a. Mt. Baldy
Difficulty: Moderate - Hard
Elevation gain: 3,900 feet
Date: Saturday July 28th, 2018
Time: 5:45 a.m. (hike starts at 6 a.m.)

Trail head Coordinates: Use this trail head GPS address: Manker Campground, Mt. Baldy, CA 91759 ( Meet at my black tahoe for giveaways/waiver signing/introductions) More specific directions are below.

Passes / Permits: Adventure Pass required. If you don’t have an Adventure Pass, it can be bought @ most outdoor enthusiast retailers (ie; REI, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Big 5). I encourage you to purchase one prior to our hike in case one can’t be purchased at trail head because we may arrive before they open. Adventure pass cost is $5/day or $30/yr. I also strongly recommend carpool/ride sharing

I'd like to keep this hike as a girls who hike member only hike.
Dogs: no, not this time please.
Kids: No, not this time please.
Men: No thank you, just us girls please.

MORE INFO. CAN BE FOUND HERE:

Directions: Location: From Foothill Blvd. in Claremont, take Mills Ave. until it turns into Mt. Baldy Road. Drive 12 miles north on Mt. Baldy Rd. passed Mt. Baldy Village to the campground. (Note: Foothill can be reached by taking Mountain Ave. north from the 10 freeway). Call (626) 335-1251 for current conditions and additional information.

I will secure a day hike permit for us, all that are in attendance.

There ARE bathrooms around campground that can be used before/after hike.

NO EVENTBRITE TICKET IS REQUIRED for this hike. Just an old fashion rsvp, please.

If you haven’t yet signed a GIRLS WHO HIKE waiver, please take a minute to do so by following this link to sign.

http://bit.ly/GWHLiabilityWaiver

To participate/attend a GWH event, the waiver must be signed. Good news, you only do it once and it’s good for all future events for the year. I WILL HAVE some printed at the trail head for those who may need it.

What to bring; Please bring what you are comfortable hiking with. This can include, but is not limited to; hat/sunscreen/glasses/bug net/bug spray/ layers for variety of weather (it will undoubtedly get windy & cold at some point on our venture) I have yet to hike a peak that didn’t. Please bring at least 3L of water per person, nutrient filled snacks, trekking poles (if you’d like, not necessary) medical or small first aid kit, GPS or map...you can also refer to the 10 hiking essentials, they are not mandatory but recommended and helpful on any and every hike.

https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/ten-essentials.html

Most importantly, think of what you would want/need to be comfortable and safe. Then pack and bring along with you!

Friendly reminder: This amazing hike is open to all, every single level of hiker. From beginner to intermediate. I am a regular walking pace hiker and would love for us to stay as a group, if possible.

Thank you girls ~ I hope to see you on the dirt trail

This trail will take us along the scenic view overlooking Big Shoals, the only class III rapids in Florida.

Trail Rating: This is a yellow hike on the GWH scale – It is around 3 miles and has a very low elevation gain. The yellow is due to the darkness and underground aspects of the trail. You should not come on this hike if you are extremely claustrophobic!

To complete this hike, I highly recommend bringing snacks, 2 - 3 L of water, and your 10 essentials. I have not yet completed this hike, but from what I have read the trail may not be well marked and could be overgrown in parts. Because of this I would recommend wearing clothing that covers the full length of your legs. I hope to complete this trail prior to our scheduled date. I will provide additional information at that time. Alternatively, if anyone in our group has been on this trail, I welcome hearing about your experiences.

Additional Note: Dolly Sods was used for bombing training back during WWII and there are still live rounds scattered throughout the wilderness. If you find any, take note of where it was - DO NOT TOUCH IT - and call authorities when you can.

This hike is open to hikers of all skill levels. We’ll be hiking as a group, and nobody will be left behind or forgotten.

Hi ladies! I'm so excited to lead this hike at the Glenn Sebastian Nature Trails on the University of South Alabama campus. These are lovely trails! I often spot turtles basking in the sun in the ponds :)

Bring plenty of water, electrolytes, sturdy footwear, snacks and/or lunch, bug spray, sunscreen, a camera, and your adventurous spirit! We will take breaks to eat, hydrate, and take in the scenery throughout the hike.

If anybody is up for coffee or another cold beverage/snack after the hike, let's go to Starbucks at the library on campus! :)

Event password will always be GWHLA***

Come tackle one of the six pack up peaks (or eight if you’re fancy) with us via the strenuous, but less traveled route. It starts at Manker Flats, but traverses straight up to Mt Harwood gaining about 4100ft in 3.3 miles. I have yet to try this route, but am looking to venture out to it with some ladies looking to change things up ;).

***This hike is appropriate if you are ok with steep paths, have done one of the six pack of peaks in the last two months, and can carry 6L of water. We will try to keep a pace of 1.5 miles per hour so please know your limits. With that being said, no one will get left behind and I will turn back with anyone if necessary. You also have a month to prepare for this hike so don’t be discouraged if you haven’t completed a high elevation hike this year. Reach out to the group and there are plenty of girls always willing to train/hike! :)

Distance: 8 miles out and back

Peak elevation: 10,064ft

Elevation change: 4100ft

Hiking time: 8-10 hours, but be prepared for a long day in case we need more breaks than anticipated.

Meeting time: 4:30am at the trailhead. This will allow time to stretch/use the bathroom/get situated. We will be leaving at 5:00am SHARP. Please don't be late as courtesy for the ladies that are coming from further away.

Parking: ADVENTURE PASS REQUIRED. Park at Manker Flats (this is PAST the Manker Flats campground). You will see rows of cars parked when you make the left turn. Trailhead coordinates are (34.2662545,-117.6269269).

Directions: From the 210 freeway, exit Baseline (eastbound) or Mountain (westbound) and head north towards Mt. Baldy Road and Mt. Baldy Village. Continue past Mt. Baldy Village and take a left towards the Mt. Baldy Ski Resort when you see the parking lot for Icehouse Canyon. The trailhead is just after the Manker Flat camping area and just before the ski lift parking lot. **there is no service at the trailhead.**

What you need:

1. copy of the trail map (paper or downloaded to phone)
2. At least 6 L of water. It will be hot and we will not be going through water sources to refill.
3. Trekking poles. This hike is steep so save your knees :)
4. Always have your 10 hiking essentials (https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/ten-essentials.html).

***In order to attend an official meetup, you MUST have a signed Liability Waiver on file. It takes 60 seconds to complete and one waiver clears you for all meetups! (http://bit.ly/GWHLiabilityWaiver)***
