Some more info about this hike: This is a strenuous OUT AND BACK hike. The first 2-3 miles is more of a gradual incline but the last 2-2.5 miles to the Thumb are steep with many switchbacks.

I strongly suggest in addition to water that all hikers bring an appropriate amount of snacks as well.

There are several good turnaround points for anyone who feels that can't complete the entire hike.

Hello ladies! Happy to host an Official Meetup at Fossil Springs! My first time approaching from this direction. But here is the scoop: Easy going down, a bit tough coming up - especially in the heat. Average temp this time of year is around 81ish. Very rocky so wear appropriate footwear for the trail and if you want to get in the water.

This is pre-permit time (literally by a day) so let's hit it up before the masses take over! Bring LOTS of water and snacks, sunscreen, big hat for sun coverage, towel if you are getting in the water.

For those coming from the Valley - happy to figure out carpooling and meet up at Fort McDowell Casino for the trek up. Its about 2.5 hours from the Valley to the Trailhead - so this makes this an ALL DAY venture. Timing will depend on everyone's hiking ability so if you need to be back by a certain time I would not recommend going. Timeframe noted is for hike ONLY - not including travel time. Your accurate RSVP is very important!

This hike is open to hikers of all skill levels. We’ll be hiking as a group, and nobody will be left behind or forgotten.

Any updates will be posted on the event thread via the pinned post, and I’ll update the event description if anything changes!

This trail can be a bit slippery due to snow, ice, and wet conditions. This makes for slow and careful hiking on the way down from the overlook. Hopefully this won’t be an issue for us, but be prepared for muddy conditions if it has rained a few days prior.

I did not have cell phone reception or Wi-Fi service in the park until I reached the overlook.

WTA Link: https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/little-si

Gear: Hiking boots required. It will likely be cool and wet, so warm clothing (no cotton), rain jacket, and an extra pair of socks will be a good idea. There is a chance that the summit may have ice, a dusting of snow, and/or slick rocks from rain, so hiking poles and some kind of traction for shoes (yaktrax or microspikes) may be helpful, but not required.
Other: You should bring some snacks to munch on throughout the hike or during breaks. Protein bars, granola, trail mix, energy gels/chews are recommended.

Dogs: Allowed; must be on leash. May not be suitable for pups
Kids: If you are confident in their ability to hike on a trail of this magnitude, they are welcome! **Trail may be too steep for little legs towards the summit**
Men: If you must! ;)

Pacing: We will stay together as a group for this hike, so pacing will be determined as a group! Ideally we should be done by 12:30 PM, but please be flexible. *NOTE: If you plan to separate from the group, you must check out with me before leaving!

Permits / Passes: Discover Pass - You must have a Discover Pass before showing up to the parking area, as there is no guarantee that day passes are available at the trailhead

Trailhead Coordinates / Address: 47.4878, -121.7563

Proceed 0.3 miles and turn right on SE Mount Si Road. The main parking lot for Little Si will be 0.4 miles on your left as the road straightens out after the bend (if you pass 439 Pl SE or 440 PL SE, you have driven too far).

There is an overflow parking lot west of the main lot tucked into SE Mt Si Rd and 434 Ave SE. There is a trail connecting the two. Be warned that both lots may be full on weekends.

*This is a turtle hike, we will go slow and take as many breaks as needed. We will hike as ONE group. This will be a great hike for those just getting into hiking or those who hike at a slower pace. Minimal conditioning required.

This out and back trail starts out fairly flat for .25 mile before reaching a steady incline for approximately 1 mile and then leveling out again shortly before the waterfall. After a break, we will continue beyond the falls where we will need to complete an easy climb/crawl approximately 10 feet up a dirt/rock section before reaching another level section of trail. This section of the trail is much less trafficked and winds through the canyon along the creek for another .3 miles. There are a few creek crossings above the falls but they are over shallow water and are easy, requiring either stepping completely over the creek, stepping on a few rocks, or walking over tree branches and 2x4's.

No special hiking gear is required for this event, regular shoes with a bit of grip will work fine. I do suggest a hat as this hike is completely exposed before the falls, it is well shaded after. Please bring water, and a snack if you'd like!

Hello Everyone!

For March’s event, I figured we could change up our terrain and go for a hike that involves some light bouldering and a waterfall! This hike borders both Riverside and Orange County and is based out of Silverado, CA (about an hour-ish from Riverside, depending on time of day).

Normally when there isn’t much rain, the waterfall is just a trickle, but this year’s rain means we have a much better chance of getting some water action going on! The hike starts off on a fire road for a few miles and turns off on a trail that takes us over some boulders back into the canyon. Black Star Canyon is a personal favorite as it was one of the first hikes I had EVER hiked a few years back.

Please be aware poison ivy tends to grow along this trail, so sleeves/long pants are recommended (layer in case it gets too warm). There is light bouldering involved with this hike, meaning we WILL be crawling over rocks to get to the waterfall (please remember this when picking out your boots for the hike). While I do see people in Nikes or the likes on this trail, it will be slippery this time of year and any extra grip helps. (I have had a friend slip on this trail). I hike at a moderate speed to lead the pack but am a “no hiker left behind” type girl and constantly check in to make sure I have everyone in my group together.

I look forward to seeing all your friendly faces there, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions! I will do my best to cover any and all questions you ladies have.

This is a great hike for beginners!! Depending on new snowfall between now and then Spikes and Snowshoes could be possible. The trail is narrow and it could get slippery so we will watch the weather. All levels are welcome. We will not leave anyone behind.

Hey ladies!! This one is a long one! I recommend trying to get a couple extra miles in for hikes just to be prepared! I will post more info in the next couple days!

This hike is probably not the best hike for beginners, based on length and difficulty. You should be able to confidently hike at least 6 miles, and hike at a 2-2.5mph pace. As always, our meetups are a no-judgement zone. We are here to encourage as well as motivate each other along the trail. This means NO ONE is left behind!

>>>>>Preparing for the hike: make sure to eat breakfast and hydrate, wear comfortable clothing, supportive trail shoes or hiking boots with good tread, trekking poles if desired, at least 2-3L of water, and a first aid kit!

Please remember to dress appropriately! Winter boots, gloves and hats are highly recommended. Layers are the best way to dress so you don't overheat! If you need help putting together a winter hiking wardrobe, check out this great blog post from REI about dressing for colder weather! https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/layering-basics.html

California Central Coast - Anniversary Hike to Two Trees

Hello ladies! Join us as we celebrate Girls Who Hike Central Coast chapter’s anniversary with a potluck hike to Two Trees and Barlow Canyon in Ventura. The hike will be co-hosted by GWHCC Ambassadors Susan Adamich and Caroline Paras and led by Rancho Ventura Conservation Trust administrators. In addition to the hike, chapter members are encouraged to bring a snack to share, and a towel or small pad for sitting on the ground.

Two Trees, one of the most iconic landmarks in Ventura, is on private agricultural land under the stewardship of Rancho Ventura Conservation Trust. Rancho Ventura is regularly open to the public for organized group hiking to Two Trees. GWHCC will be receiving an exclusive guided hike to Two Trees and then into the backcountry of Barlow Canyon by Mike Lydon, the Ranch Ventura Naturalist; Spencer Noren, the Rancho Ventura Community Outreach director, and Bonnie Atmore, the visionary and co-owner of the Rancho Ventura Conservation Trust property with her husband Richard Atmore.

During this ladies-only meetup, our chapter members will get to visit the permanently preserved land in the Ventura Hillsides, take in incredible views overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Channel Islands and the cities of Ventura and Oxnard, and the Los Padres National Forest and Topa Topa Mountains to the North and Santa Monica Mountains to the Southeast. There will be incredible photo opportunities due to the great visibility in the Fall and Winter months. Hike leaders will teach the story of the land, History of Two Trees, facts about wildlife and more during the hike.

This hike is open to all levels of hikers. The first trek of the hike will take us to Two Trees which is 2 miles round trip. If you decide to continue on, we will hike into Barlow Canyon, which will be 4.5 miles roundtrip.

Girls Who Hike was founded in 2015. The Central Coast chapter was founded March 6, 2017.

Georgia - AT Series - Hightower to Gooch Gap

Appalachian Trail: Hightower Gap to Gooch Gap: month 3!
This Hike is led by GWH Ambassador Angela Nouryeh!
This is month 3 of my Appalachian Trail series! This month we will section hike over a weekend.
-Day 1: Saturday will be Hightower Gap to Gooch Gap
This hike goes over Sassafras Mountain, thru Cooper Gap and Devil's Kitchen. This a strenuous hike due to several summits. It is a very rocky section and I would highly recommend having hiking poles. Once past Cooper Gap, we will cross over three water crossings, so make sure to have waterproof boots.

Join me on Angela's AT Adventure series for this fun weekend of hikes!
Make sure to bring trail snacks, lunch and 3 L of water for each day. Also remember to dress in layers, bring hiking poles and rain gear if applicable.
